Lightning claims four lives in 3 districts KOPPAL/BELLARY/ TUMKUR DISTRICTS, OCT 9, 2014,

Two people were killed and three injured after lightning struck them at Alavandi village in Koppal taluk on Friday afternoon.

In Bellary district, a 14-year-old boy was the victim. Another man was killed in lightning at Huliyar in Tumkur district.

A few cowherds were taking shelter under a tree in the fields belonging to Siddanna Halli when lightning struck Chotabi, 65, wife of Goususab, and Kiran Kumar, 11, son of Nagappa Halli. Shambhu Halli, Mahendra Kalasannavar and Bibijan Nadaf sustained injuries in their hands and legs. Koppal, Alavandi and Betageri taluks have received heavy rainfall since afternoon.

Bhovi Manjunath, 14, a class 9 student from Gudekote village in Kudligi taluk, Bellary district, was struck by lightning on Friday. Manjunath was grazing sheep on the outskirts of the village. He rushed under a tamarind tree to seek shelter from the sudden rain that lashed the village when the incident occurred.

In Tumkur

In Tumkur district, a 55-year-old man was killed instantly after lightning struck him at Hosahalli Palya in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk on Friday.

The victim is Shivanna. The incident occurred when he was grazing cattle at his farm. When skies opened up around 4 pm, Shivanna rushed to a nearby tree to take cover from the rain. He was struck by a lightning. Huliyar police have registered a case.
