Mysuru, Apr. 1- Heavy rains, accompanied by
strong winds, which lashed the temple town
of Nanjangud yesterday for more than an
hour not only hampered preparations for
today’s Gauthama Pancha Maharathotsava but
also affected nearly 50,000 devotees who
thronged the town.
The Rathotsava route, which had been given a
facelift for the occasion turned into a virtual
swimming pool as a result of the rains which
was accompanied by frequent power cuts.
At Hassan: The untimely heavy rains,
accompanied by high velocity winds throwing
normal life out of gear was also reported from
Hassan.
At Virajpet: A 40-minute spell of heavy rains
that lashed Virajpet in Kodagu resulted in
severe disruption of normal life.
Disruption of vehicular traffic as a result of
rains also caused inconvenience to those
returning homes from places of work;
frequent power outages also added to the
woes of residents.
