Not withstanding the recent lull in rain, the district had a good run of south west monsoon from June 1 to July 8.
As against a normal of 130.8 mm rainfall for the period, Mysuru district received 167.5 mm with an upward variation of 28 per cent. During the corresponding period last year, the district recorded 98.9 mm against the normal of 130.8 mm with a deficit of minus 24 per cent.
However, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) data indicates that from July 2 to July 8, the district as a whole received 4.3 mm against the normal 36.7 mm.
But the cumulative rainfall for June 1 to July 8 indicated that the rainfall was widespread and uniform across the district with all seven taluks receiving above normal rain.
T. Narsipur taluk received 92.12 mm of rain against a normal of 78 mm during the period. But for Sosale hobli, which received deficient rain (minus 6 per cent), all the other hoblis in the taluk received above normal rain, according to the KSNDMC data.
H.D. Kote taluk received 201.17 mm against a normal of 197.80 mm but Antharsanthe hobli received scanty rainfall (38 per cent below normal).
As against 358.4 mm, the cumulative rainfall during June 1 to July 8 was 222.16 mm.
Hunsur taluk received cumulative rainfall of 198.02 mm against 114.90 mm. Similarly, K.R. Nagar taluk received 128.79 mm against normal of 110.30 mm. Mysuru taluk received 151.47 mm against 91.50 mm.
Even drought-prone Nanjangud taluk received above normal rain during the period while Periyapatana received 217.82 mm against 172 mm.
As per the data, four out of seven taluks received excess rainfall and three received normal rain so far this year. Twenty hoblis received above normal rain.
The data points out that out of 50 minor irrigation tanks in the district, almost half of them are still dry.
