Rains batter Kodagu, north Karnataka

Monsoon continued to pummel parts of Karnataka on Friday pushing up water levels in major reservoirs.

With intermittent rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district, the water in Kumaradhara river reached danger level at the bridge near Kukke Subramanya. Any further rain would submerge the bridge snapping road connectivity between Subramanya and Mangalore. The bathing ghat at the temple town has already submerged.

Sea erosion has intensified at Thenka Yermal near Padubidri. Strong waves have devoured coconut trees and a petty shop on the beach front. Boulders being used as walls to resist erosion have also been washed away.

Dakshina Kannada district received an average rainfall of 51.3 mm in the last 24 hours. Belthangdy recorded the highest -54.2 mm followed by Puttur - 53.9 mm. The district has received an average of 2031.4 mm rainfall since January this year.
