Heavy rainfall and lightning that lashed a few districts across the State, has claimed the lives of six persons on Thursday evening.
Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong wind, thunder and lightning lashed several parts of Shivamogga district claiming the lives of two persons.
Harish, (24), a resident of Alavalli in Hosanagar taluk was struck by lightning while working in the fields on Thursday evening. Shashikiran, (15), died when his cellphone exploded due to lightning, while he was playing a game on it, at Maadlemane village in Thirthahalli taluk on Wednesday night.
Ripponpet, Shikaripur, Shiralakoppa, Sagar, Shivamogga and Bhadravathi received heavy rain. Vehicular movement on Sagar-Shivamogga stretch was disrupted for nearly one hour as branch of a huge tree fell on the road. Around 16 motorcycles parked near the railway station in Shivamogga City were also damaged last night due to the strong wind. The rain that started in the evening lasted for hours across the district.
Power supply was disrupted in several parts of the district as trees fell on electric poles. As many as ten houses at Hosahalli, and a few houses at Nagatibelagalu and Kalpanahalli villages in Bhadravathi taluk were damaged due to strong winds.
Ron taluk
Basavaraj Ramappa Myageri, an eleven-year-old boy, was struck by lightning, on Thursday evening, while he visited the fields to handover lunch to his uncle, who was grazing sheep at Arahunasi village in Ron taluk of Gadag district.
Yadgir taluk
A couple, Rachoti Badiger (45) and his wife Lakshmi (40) were struck by lightning when they were working in the fields at Pasapool village in
Yadgir taluk on Thursday evening.
Sandur taluk
Obappa, 27, a farmer from Hirekere village in Sandur taluk of Ballari district was struck by lightning, when he was returning home from the fields on thursday evening.
A case has been registered at police station.
