Mysuru, May 16- Many areas in Mysuru city
had to bear the brunt of rain which flooded
the houses and streets yesterday.
Heavy showers accompanied by thunder and
lightning which began at around 1.30 pm
continued till about 4.30 pm resulting in rain
water flooding the houses in
Chikkaharadanahalli, Kuvempunagar,
Ramakrishnanagar, Saraswathipuram and
other areas.
More than 25 houses were flooded with rain
water at Chikkaharadanahalli, while it was
around 50 houses at Surya Layout in
Srirampura that witnessed water logging.
Many household goods were seen floating in
the water and people were seen running
helter-skelter to save their cars and two-
wheelers.
Fearing flood situation, people rushed to their
respective terraces to take shelter. With the
heavy rains lashing city yesterday, fallen trees
were a common scene at Kuvempunagar,
Ramkrishnanagar, Sriramapura and other
areas. People found it difficult to commute on
the road as the rain water had logged for
around 3ft. In Kuvempunagar, a newly-laid
road caved in owing to heavy downpour.
Staff at the ISCKON Temple were seen
struggling to push away the rainwater from
temple premises. This apart, the supporting
wall of the storm water drain was damaged
resulting in traffic commotion.
Meanwhile, as a result of rainwater entering
the cellar of the CESC office at Kuvempunagar,
few of the documents are said to have been
damaged. Also, the vehicles parked in the
cellar were submerged due to water logging
for around 9ft.
Many houses located in low laying areas also
witnessed the rainwater entering their
houses. Trees were also uprooted in
Jayanagar, Kalidasa Road, Saraswathipuram
and other areas.
MCC officials and fire-fighters rushed to the
spot and cleared the uprooted trees to make
way for traffic movement.
