Bengaluru, April 21, 2015,Hailstorm, rain lash Tumakuru, Shivamogga districts

A couple of places in the State received heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong wind, thunder and lightning lashed some parts of Shivamogga district on Tuesday evening. Showers brought the much-needed respite from heat for the people of the district. Hosanagar taluk received moderate to heavy rainfall for about one hour in the evening. Rains wreaked havoc at Ripponpet in the taluk. Two houses on Thirthahalli Road in Ripponpet were damaged as the branch of a tree fell. Movement of vehicles on Sagar Road was disrupted for a while as the branch of a mango tree fell on the Government Pre-university College. Later, it was 
cleared. 

The roof tiles of a house near Bharvesale street on Shivamogga Road and of a government Urdu school were blown away due to strong winds. Power supply was disrupted in various parts of the taluk as branches of trees fell over electricity supplying lines.

Cloudy weather

Sagar, Shikaripur, Thirthahalli and Shivamogga taluks witnessed cloudy weather towards the evening signalling rain in the night.  Meanwhile, Kora hobli, Malehalli, Muddenahalli, Brahmasandra and the surrounding villages in Tumakuru taluk received heavy rainfall accompanied with hailstorm and gusty winds on Tuesday evening.
The hailstorm that lashed the taluk for more than an hour, has hit mango trees and several horticultural crops, like white and yellow crysanthamums. 
Loss worth lakhs of rupees has been estimated.
