Watch the skies: Rains to continue for next three days

BENGALURU: Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC) Director Srinivas Reddy said starting Saturday, many parts of the state, especially south interior Karnataka, will receive rains till Tuesday.
According to Reddy, a trough has formed in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, the influence of which can be seen in Karnataka. This has resulted in light to moderate rains in some parts of South Karnataka and there will be heavy rainfall in a few places, he said. “This will go on for the next three days. However, this year’s pre-monsoon showers are less compared to last year. The state is facing a deficit,’’ he said.
As per KSNDMC’s data, from March till date, the state should get 62 mm of rainfall on an average. However, the state received only 36 mm. According to IMD-Bengaluru, there will be rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Bengaluru to receive rainfall for three more days, says KSNMDC
Bengaluru: The state will receive light to medium rainfall over the next three to four days, said Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNMDC) on Saturday (May 11).
This is the pre-monsoon rainfall and the KSNMDC has also warned of increase in the temperature. Rainfall along with thunder and lighting is expected in interior south Karnataka, coastal regions and Malnad regions for three days.
However, there are no signs of rainfall for two days in Uttara Kannada. But there are chances of the arid regions of Uttara Karnataka too receiving rainfall after Tuesday, said KSNMDC director Shrinivas Reddy, speaking to Kannada Prabha.
He also said that Bengaluru will receive rainfall on Sunday (May 12). The city experienced showers in the wee hours of Sunday and rainfall is expected in the evening too.
Meanwhile, it rained heavily in various regions including Bengaluru rural, Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Hassan, Davanagere, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Ramanagar and Tumakuru on Saturday.
Mysuru reportedly received the highest, 53.5 mm rainfall, followed by Chamarajanagar (53 mm), Uttara Kannada (38.1 mm), Bengaluru (36 mm), Mandya (32.5 mm), Hassan (24 mm) and Bengaluru Rural (16 mm), stated KSNMDC.
The reason for the rainfall is said to be trough formed in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Karnataka is receiving rains due this change in environment in the neighbouring states. However, the KSNMDC director has stated that this year’s pre-monsoon showers are less compared to last year and that the state is facing a rainfall deficit.
According to KSNDMC’s data, the state has received only 36 mm average rainfall when expected rainfall is 66 mm.
