Incessant rain in upper reaches of
Eastern Himalayas region mainly in
Arunachal Pradesh,
Assam, foot hills of Bhutan and
Meghalaya have led to 3
rd
wave of flood in the Brahmaputra
River Basin. As per reports till 27
th
September 2012, 20,06,168 people in
2174 villages under 77
Revenue circles of 18 districts, have
been affected by the flood. The flood
water start receding
in upper Assam districts but the flood
situation in lower Assam remain
unchanged.
As per report of Indian
Meteorological Department (IMD),
during the 13
th
to 19
th
September
2012, Arunachal Pradesh received 60
% more rainfall than normal, and for
Assam and
Meghalaya it was more than 30 % of
normal.

Sand casting upto 4 feet can be seen
across Sadiya sub division in
Tinsukia district.
Sadiya sub division was severely
affected in the current wave of flood.
Ferry service in Majuli which was
suspended by the Jorhat district
administration was
resumed. In Tinsukia district also,
ferry services between Dhola and
Sadiya
resumed.
A bridge on the National Highway 52
at Gogamukh was washed away by
flood
water on
September 13, snapping off all
communication links. With roads also
under
flood water,
Dhemaji remained cut off from the
rest of the world. However, according
to
media
reports, the Border Roads
Organization (BRO) has managed to
build a subway
near the
bridge which was washed away.
According to Central Water
Commission, the Brahmaputra was
flowing above the
danger level at Nematighat (85.72
meter), Guwahati (50.18 meter) and
Dhubri
(29.78
meter). Except at Dhubri, the river is
maintaining a falling trend at all
of its gauge
stations. At Dhubri it is maintaining a
steady trend.
The current wave of flood affected 2,
26, 902 hectares of agricultural land
in the state.
8,28,812 big animals, 4,18,345 small
animals and 5,87,654 poultry have
been
affected.
1,699 big animals and 1,973 small
animals washed away.
The flood has led to the death of four
rhinoceros, 14 hog deers, one sambar
and three
wild boar in the Kaziranga National
Park and death to one wild piglet in
Dibru- Saikhowa
National Park. One wild elephant is
stranded in the swamp of this
National
Park. Nine
per cent of the Pabitora Wildlife
Sanctuary is under water.
