With rain gauges registering 5.3 mm of rain by Monday morning, the city saw trees falling, water logging and a host of traffic issues.
“We received complaints that a big tree in Basaveshwarnagar and one in Banashankari, near Deve Gowda petrol bunk, had fallen down. Apart from this, there was one water-logging complaint near the Lokayukta office,” said a BBMP control room operator. Slow moving traffic was reported from several parts of the city, with traffic cops giving warnings about Jalahalli Cross on Tumkur road, the tollgate towards the Satellite Bus Stand and Mysuru road. Slow moving traffic was also reported at Indian Express circle, BDA Junction , Sankey Road and Manyata Tech Park towards Hebbal.
Temperatures oscillated between a minimum of 18.9 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 24.4 degrees Celsius.

At 256.8mm, Bengaluru records highest November rain since 1916

BENGALURU: With 4.2mm and 6.2mm rainfall recorded in the City and HAL areas on Friday, Bengaluru has seen the highest rainfall in the month of November since 1916.

Upto 8.30pm on Friday a total of 256.8mm rainfall has been received this month, marginally higher than the 252.2mm in 99 years ago (1916).

The unprecedented rains this month had already seen more rain than monsoon last week, and with the weatherman predicting more in the next three days, may take the new record beyond the 256.8mm.

Even after the last recording happened, the rain had not stopped. By 8,30am tomorrow (on Saturday) we will know better, a duty officer from the Meteorological department said, forecasting rains for the next three days.

After 2015 and 1916, 2010 recorded the highest rain at 145.3mm followed by 143.7mm in 2013. Even 2012 saw rainfall over 100mm at 125mm.

With rain recorded almost on all days so far, this November has also seen a five-fold increase in the number of rainy days. The average number of rainy days seen in November as per an analysis between the years 1971 and 2000 is 3.9 days.

The department has attributed this month's rains to a well-marked low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal, off Tamil Nadu coast.

Bengaluru:This November set to be wettest in 100 yrs

Bengaluru: November could be the wettest month for Bengaluru this year. The total rain received in 16 days has surpassed the highest rainfall in a month recorded during this monsoon.

In September, Bengaluru received 189.8mm of rain. By mid-November, the city has already received 230mm of rain. The average November rainfall for Bengaluru is 54.1mm. This November's rain is set to break the record 252.2mm received in 1916.

Geeta Agnihotri, director in charge, Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru, said the city has been receiving heavy rain due to a well-marked low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal, off Tamil Nadu coast. "Since Bengaluru and other parts of south-interior Karnataka fall in the shadow area of this weather system, we are witnessing more showers," she said.

November's rain has crossed the total average rainfall for a month in Karnataka during this year's monsoon months of June to September. This June, 211.9mm of rain was recorded, which was the highest average rainfall for the state during the monsoon season.

In 2014, during the post-monsoon season of October to December, the city received total rainfall of 278.2mm. This year, the figure has been crossed in mid-November.

Meteorological department officials predicted more showers for Bengaluru over the next few days.

BENGALURU:  It is going to be a wet Diwali for city residents this year. Parts of South Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru are likely to receive heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to forecast issued by Indian Meteorological Department here.

The officials said there is a cyclonic storm moving westwards in the Arabian Sea. A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal will further intensify in to a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours and pass through Tamil Nadu coast between Karikala and Chennai bringing rains to South Karnataka region, they added.

The city has received good rains in this month already with 95.3 mm on November 3 and 33.4 mm on November 5. On the same days last year, no rainfall was reported. However, on November 23 last year, the city had witnessed a record rainfall of 106.2 mm, while the average rain for the entire month is 57.2 mm.

With such a downpour, many houses were flooded, trees were uprootd and traffic had gone completely out of gear.

Taking a cue from the IMD’s forecast and last year’s experience, BBMP officials have been directed to be on alert and ensure rain related emergency team coordinate with the control room officials and immediately rush to affected spots.

“Prahari teams consisting over five members who are experts in rain related emergencies are already deputed in eight BBMP zones. A team from our forest department will coordinate with fire and emergency service department and the home guards,” said a senior BBMP official.

Clearing Storm Water Drains When roads got chocked following rains in June, the Storm Water Department started clearing major storm water drains and primary drains. “The work is ongoing. We have also noted the key areas like TV Tower, RT Nagar Main Road and other areas where the removal of silt is underway. The process will be completed in all such areas that connect important lakes and valleys,” said Ananthaswamy, Chief Engineer, Storm Water Drains, BBMP.

Following recent rains inthe city, a small portion of the road in Subramanyanagar Main Road near Malleshwaram caved in on Sunday. This stretch of road sees heavy traffic density during peak hours.

While the local residents placed two stones and a cardboard box to draw the attention of motorists, there is no other warning sign.

This apart, an open manhole and an open drain right next to the spot pose a threat to commuters. BBMP West Zone Joint Commissioner said the issue has not been brought to his notice and added that he would take measures after visiting the spot.

Corporator H Manjunath said the road caved in due to the damaged drain and added that repairs would be taken up soon.

At 95.3 mm, Monday's rain was heaviest this year in City

The City has recorded 95.3 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, which according to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials is the highest in 24 hours, this year. So far, the highest was 66.4 mm which was registered on May 17.

The HAL and Kempegowda International Airport received 66.1 mm and 57 mm rainfall respectively.

This (95.3mm) is also highest for November, the City has received in the last two years. It is also the second highest rainfall, the City has recorded in November in the last 10 years. The City had received 108.4 mm of rainfall on November 24, 2013, highest rain in 24 hours in the month of November.

The maximum rainfall ever recorded in the City for the month of November was 114.5mm on November 9, 1916.

The IMD officials said that this rainfall is because of the delayed onset of Northeast monsoon and the City could experience more in the forthcoming days. IMD has forecast thundershowers for the next two days in the City.

"Normally September and October are considered to be the wettest months of the year for Bengaluru, but this year, the wettest month, so far, is November.
However, changes in weather patterns are not an unusual phenomenon. This weather system will also affect the onset of winter and could increase its duration," an IMD official said.

The City on Tuesday (till 5:30 pm) recorded 1.9 mm rainfall while HAL received 19 mm and trace rainfall (0.1mm) was registered at international airport.
