Rains pound Bhatkal for 14 hrs BAGALKOT/UTTARA KANNADA/RAICHUR:

Heavy rains lashed Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district for more than 14 hours throwing normal life out of gear in the coastal town.

The rain, which started late on Monday night pounded Bhatkal till Tuesday noon. The town recorded a rainfall of 60.6 mm of rain as at Tuesday morning. Ponds and tanks overflowed submerging roads and affecting movement of vehicles. Rain water gushed into houses and shops also.

Heavy rains continued to lash the North Karnataka districts of Bagalkot and Raichur for the second day on Tuesday.

More than 475 houses have been damaged in Bagalkot district on account of the downpour. Rampur in Bagalkot taluk received 117 mm of rain on Monday night while it rained 86.8 mm in Hungund. Badami, Ilkal, Hungund and Ilkal too received heavy rains. Normal life was disrupted as rain water gushed into houses in low-lying areas. Chittavadagi pond in Hungund taluk overflowed while movement of vehicles on Amaravathi road had come to a standstill.

A person was injured after lightning struck him in Jalahalli village of Deodurg taluk in Raichur. The district also received rains throughout the day.

Mangaluru
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received moderate rainfall after a brief break on Tuesday.

Heavy rains in Uppinangady did not dampen the spirits of protesters during the highway bandh organised by the Netravathi Nadi Tiruvu Yojane Virodhi Horata Samithi and other organisations.

In Mangaluru, the sky remained overcast through the day and good rains lashed the city and surrounding areas in the evening. In the last 24 hours, Dakshina Kannada district received 26.4 mm rainfall.

Rains lashed Udupi on Monday night. The taluk experienced 63.2 mm, Kundapura 69.9 mm and Karkala 65.2 mm rainfall.

Shivamogga
Moderate rains lashed parts of the district on Tuesday.Bhadravathi and Shivamogga received intermittent rains till noon. Moderate rains lashed Thirthahalli, Hosanagar and parts of Sagar through the day. However, there has been no drastic rise in water levels in the dams.
