Informations should not just be for the geographically, financially otherwise fortunate — for it is the unfortunate who need it most.

Holiday for schools, PU colleges in Dakshina Kannada on Friday
People have been advised to call the round the clock toll free number 1077 for any help.

MANGALURU,  OCTOBER 25, 2019 01:24 IST

Rivers, streams in spate owing to rains in catchment areas
The Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared holiday for all anganwadis, schools, and pre-university colleges on October 25 in view of the red alert issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) for Friday.

In a release on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B. Rupesh asked fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next three days.

A joint bulletin by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information and IMD said that a depression had formed over east central Arabian Sea. It is very likely to intensify further into a deep depression and into a cyclonic storm later on Thursday and on Friday. High waves in the range of 3 m to 3.3 m have been forecast till 11.30 p.m. on Friday along the Karnataka coast. Extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over the coastal districts of the State, according to the bulletin. Heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds are lashing several parts of the district since Wednesday night.

Reports reaching here said that the toilet building of a madrasa at Panjikallu under Ira Gram Panchayat limits, on the outskirts of the city, collapsed on the house of Ahmed Bava early on Thursday. The house of Mr. Bava was partially damaged in the incident.

Sea erosion resumed in Uchila-Someshwara areas, washing away four coconut trees in Battampady on Thursday. High waves are lashing the shores in Ullal and Someshwara areas.

All rivers, streams and rivulets in the district are again in spate owing to rains in catchment areas.

Ms. Rupesh asked parents not to allow children to go near the sea shore, rivers, and low-lying areas.

All taluk- and district-level officers have been instructed not to leave their stations and be prepared to face any emergency situation on Friday.

People have been advised to call the round the clock toll free number 1077 for any help.
