With heavy rainfall lashing across
Kodagu district, the district
administration has declared
holiday for schools on Thursday.
The supplementary exams for PUC
will continue without any hassle.
There has been drastic increase in
water-level in Cauvery river.
The heavy showers threw traffic
out of gear with office-goers
bearing the brunt. The increase in
water level in rivers has created
flood-like situations in the district.
With the overflow of water at
Triveni Sangama, movement of
vehicles on Bhagamandala-
Napoklu, Bhagamandala-Madikeri
road has been affected. The
district administration has made
arrangement for a boat to shift the
residents to safer areas.
In the last 24 hours, the district
has received an average of 63.09
mm rainfall.
The district has received an
average of 1064.65 mm rainfall from
January till date.
Rainfall received in hoblis are as
follows: Madikeri kasaba-66.6 mm,
Napoklu-118.2 mm, Sampaje-64.6
mm, Bhagamandala-182 mm,
Virajpet-83.4 mm, Hudikeri-49.7
mm, Srimangala-49.4 mm,
Ponnampet-72.2 mm, Ammathi-45
mm, Balele-27 mm, Somwarpet
Kasaba-34.2 mm, Shanthalli-61.4
mm, Kodlipete-30.4 mm and
Suntikoppa-14.4 mm.
The Chiklihole reservoir in
Kushalnagar is just one feet away
from reaching its maximum level.
On Wednesday, the water level
stood at 872.6 metre.
The present storage in the
reservoir is 0.15 tmc feet as
against the total capacity of 0.18
tmc feet.
The inflow of water was 89 cusecs.

The water level in Bhadra river
surged following heavy rain at
Kalasa. Water had entered Kalasa-
Horanadu road, thus disrupting
movement of vehicles. Kigga
recorded highest of 218,4 mm
rainfall followed by Kerekatte-200.4
mm, Sringeri-131.5 mm rainfall.
The sky remained overcast in
Sringeri taluk. As meteorology
department had predicted heavy
rainfall, authorities have declared
holiday for schools in Sringeri
taluk on Thursday as well, said
BEO Prasanna Kumar. Snana ghatta
at Sringeri Mutt, Sandhyavanadane
mantapa at Narasimhavana, Gandhi
Maidan and Thekkur road has been
inundated with flood water.
