More rain predicted this month BANGALORE, MAY 2, 2014,

The pre-monsoon showers, which
were below normal last month
(April), are likely to intensify this
month, according to officials in
the Indian Meteorological
Department.
Parts of Bangalore east, west,
north and central business district
received good rains on Friday
evening.
"Rainfall is likely to intensify in
May. There is a trough of low
pressure at mean sea level over
southwest Bay of Bengal which is
moving towards the west. This is
likely to intensify gradually and
under this influence Tamil Nadu,
Karnataka and parts of Kerala will
receive good to heavy rainfall,”
IMD Bangalore director B Puttanna
told Deccan Herald.He added that
pre-monsoon showers normally
intensify in May and the scanty
rainfall in April would be
compensated with copious
showers in May. "The temperatures
will also vary. More cyclones could
occur in May, which will also bring
more rainfall,” Puttanna added.
In April, the City recorded 15 mm
rainfall against the average of 44
mm. For May, the IMD has forecast
109.5 mm rainfall. On Thursday,
the City recorded 0.6 mm rains and
till 5.30 pm on Friday it had rained
0.6 mm at HAL Airport. The
mercury levels also came down
from 36 degrees Celsius on
Thursday to 35.8 degrees Celsius
on Friday.
