SHIMOGA, Losses put at Rs 3.64 cr in Shimoga

The pre-monsoon showers
accompanied by lightning and
strong wind that lashed various
parts of the district over the last
one week claimed the lives of a
52-year old woman, several cattle
and damaged 687 houses and
crops.
According to the district
administration, Shikaripur is the
worst affected taluk due to rain so
far.
The roof tiles of 613 houses were
blown off due to strong wind in
Shikaripur taluk last week.
Sharadamma, 52, died when
lightning struck her at Kedalasara
village near Heggodu in Sagar
taluk recently.
As many as 68 houses were
damaged in Sorab taluk. Around
six houses were partially damaged
in Sagar taluk. Four houses and a
cattleshed were damaged in
Hosanagar taluk.
The loss due to the rains over the
last one week has been estimated
at Rs 3.64 crore. Shikaripur taluk
suffered the highest crop loss in
the district.
Plantain crops on 60 acres of land
and areca trees on 40 acres of land
in Shikaripur taluk were damaged.
The estimated loss due to the
damage to crops is Rs 57 lakh.
Paddy crops on 185 acres of land
in Bhadravati taluk were damaged
and the loss has been estimated at
Rs 57 lakh. No casualties were
reported in Shimoga and
Tirthahalli.
