Rain Brings Cheer to Farmers

Thanks to the unexpected rain that lashed the district last week, farmers are now busy preparing
their fields for sowing.
Farmers of Agasge, Kangrali, Hadigannur, Kadoli, Jaffarwadi, Savgaon, Kudremani and surrounding
villages are busy with ploughing work. Most of them are planning to cultivate paddy, potato and
sweet potato.
Farmer Sakharam Patil of Kudremani village in Belgaum taluk said the climate is perfect for the
farmers to commence ground work for sowing. Patil has started ploughing his field for paddy. He
said he is expecting a better yield this year due to the suitable weather. “I am only hoping that the
rains will be on time this season,” he said.
Farmer Bandu Patil of Hindalga village in Belgaum taluk said most farmers have already started
ploughing and as a result the demand for the tractors is on the rise. Farmers are hiring tractors at
`350 to `400 per hour. We are also facing scarcity of labour, he said.
