The City received 16.2 mm rainfall up to 5.30 pm. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that dip in mercury level, coupled with rainfall and cloudy sky, will continue for a week. The forecast also indicates strong wind occasionally.
According to IMD-Bangalore director B Puttanna, there is an upper air cyclonic circulation over north west and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal and extends over 7.6 km above mean sea level. Also, along the west coast there is a trough of low pressure at mean sea level and along the west coast from Maharashtra to Kerala.
Under these influences, coastal and interior Karnataka are receiving rainfall.
“Though we have forecast rainfall for the next three days, looking at the present conditions, it will continue for the next week. If the west coast system becomes stronger, then strong wind will prevail. Though this will reduce the temperature, rainfall will also reduce.”
Following the downpour, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control rooms were flooded with complaints.
A tree was uprooted in Koramangala 8th main, 3rd Block. Two trees were reported to have fallen in HBR Layout, 5th Cross, 5th Block. Tree-fall cases were also reported from Nagapura 10th main and from near M S Ramaiah College. A tree fell on a parked car at ITI Layout in Kathriguppe.
