The summer showers here on Saturday evening came as a huge relief to the people, bringing down the temperature by 13 degrees Celsius.
The City recorded the highest temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, but by evening the mercury dropped to 21.4 degree Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department (Met), the City received 25 mm of rainfall.
Met Director S M Maitri said that the showers were expected four days ago. He said an upper air cyclonic circulation along the Arabian Sea from Gujarat to Lakshadweep is causing rain in south-interior Karnataka.
More rains are expected in the coming days with partly cloudy skies and rain or thundershowers in certain parts of the City, Maitri added.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), J P Nagar received the highest rainfall of 58.5 mm, followed by Maruthi Mandira in Vijayanagar of 48 mm.
A KSNDMC official said that the City received scattered rainfall with many areas not recording any.
Aditi Soni, an IT professional, said though her weekend plans were ruined, she was more than happy to enjoy the much needed relief from heat.
On the flip side, commuters had a harrowing time in reaching their destinations due to traffic jams. Saroja, a resident of Hennur, said she waited for more than half an hour just to board a bus at Shivajinagar terminus. “All the terminals were jam-packed,” she said.

Complaints of waterlogging were received from certain parts of the City and the BBMP also received complaints of uprooting of trees at Jayanagar V Block, Dinnur Road in R T Nagar and near Abhinaya Theatre on B V K Iyengar Road.
