Southwest monsoon deficit in State BENGALURU: OCT 06,

The State has received less rainfall during the southwest monsoon season, according to Indian Meteorological Department. IMD-Bengaluru Director-in-charge Dr Geetha Agnihotri said that Karnataka has received 679.7 mm of rains against the normal of 832.3 mm, thereby registering a deficit of 18 per cent.

She said that Bengaluru and most parts of south interior Karnataka were receiving rains because of an upper air cyclonic circulation over west central and adjoining north west Bay of Bengal off north north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts. Under the influence of these two systems Bengaluru is experiencing moderate rainfall and will continue to do for the next two days. Even though it looked like the City received a heavy down pour on Sunday night, according to IMD officials the City received just 10.9 mm rainfall till Monday morning. However, Hessaraghatta in Bengaluru North received a heavy rainfall of 100.2 mm.

According to IMD,the City received deficit rainfall in September which is considered to be the wettest month of the year. The normal rainfall forecast for September is 211.5 mm while the City received 189.8 mm.

In perhaps, the first relish of widespread copious rainfall this season, several districts reported showers in the last couple of days.

Yadgir
Water entered houses in many parts of the district on Sunday evening. Low-lying areas were inundated following the rain. The rain continued on Monday also. The cotton crop, which was ready for harvesting, was washed away, affecting farmers' lives.

However, the late rains have facilitated sowing activities for the rabi season. Rain caused inconvenience to residents at Kembhavi in Shorapur taluk.

Ballari
One person died in the heavy rain that the taluk received on Sunday night, measuring 33.3 mm. Dada Kalander was washed away in a gutter due to the downpour at Andralu on the city outskirts on Sunday night.

Bagalkot
Almatti received incessant rains on Sunday and Monday. While it was moderate for most time, the downpour was heavy for some time. The water level recorded in the Almatti dam was 515.52 metres on Monday against the maximum level of 519.6 metres.

Haveri
More than 58 houses suffered damages during heavy rains in the district on Monday evening. Byadagi taluk received the highest rainfall of 77.4 mm.

Davangere
A woman was washed away at Bennehalla Hagarihalla stream while returning home from her field at Kadakola village in Harapanahalli taluk on Sunday evening . The woman has been identified as Revamma, 55.

Chitradurga
The district received copious rain on Sunday. A 45-year-old woman was killed in a wall collapse incident at Sajjanakere in Chitradurga taluk. The deceased has been identified as Mallamma.

Tumakuru
Many parts of Tumakuru district received ample rainfall in the last couple of days. The bunds of many tanks breached in Madhugiri taluk, leading to flooding. Huliyar town in Chikkanayakanahalli received incessant rains.

Uttara Kannada
There was intermittent rain in several parts of the district on Monday. There were showers for over two hours at Siddapura in the afternoon.

Dakshina Kannada
Intermittent rain lashed across Dakshina Kannada district on Monday. Rainwater was seen flowing on a majority of the roads in Mangaluru.

Chikkamagaluru
Heavy rains coupled with lightning and thunder for the last six days brought cheers to farmers in Lingadalli hobli of Tarikere taluk.

Shivamogga
Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of the district on Monday. The water level in Linganamakki dam rose to 1,792.45 against the maximum level of 1,819 feet. The inflow was 2,595 cusecs.

Mysuru
The Mysuru region has been experiencing rains in the last two days, including Mysuru city. Rains lashed Hassan city for more than an hour on Monday evening. Mandya district too received good rains. Chamarajanagar city and surrounding areas received heavy rains for more than half an hour on Monday.
