Jul 13, 2016::Bengaluru: At least 10 spots in Karnataka have received rainfall higher than normal range for the season in July, according to the Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru. Data from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) shows a 5% increase in rainfall in July (till Wednesday).
The meteorological centre has predicted thundershowers for most places in south interior and coastal Karnataka over the next week. Rain will continue in north interior Karnataka as well.
South interior Karnataka, where Bengaluru is located, has recorded 33% increase in rainfall, followed by north interior Karnataka (13%). As per KSNDMC, the maximum rainfall of 118.5mm was recorded at Jamboti in Khanapur taluk in Belagavi district on July 13.
The Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru, says Chikkodi in Belagavi district, which has received 110mm rainfall, and Kadra in Uttara Kannada district and Londa and Kudachi in Belagavi district, which received 70mm rainfall each on July 13 have received the highest rainfall in 24 hours this month.
While coastal Karnataka has maintained seasonal rainfall figures of 1,307mm, Malnad region has recorded a 5% drop in rainfall. Chikkamagaluru, which is known to receive heavy rain, has recorded depreciation up to 62mm.
A senior official from KSNDMC said though there has been an increase in rainfall, they are yet to declare the pattern as 'above normal' since the season is not over yet.
