BENGALURU: For the umpteenth time this season, much of Bengaluru was laid low by about 40-50 mm of rain on Thursday. It started at noon, with overcast conditions over south interior Karnataka triggering a thunderstorm over the city.
S S M Gavaskar, a scientist in the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell (KSNDMC) said more rain was forecast for Friday.
Low-lying areas such as HSR Layout and Koramangala were inundated in a trice and traffic along major roads was affected due to waterlogging.
The Bengaluru traffic police put out advisories indicating traffic snarls during peak hours. As per the Twitter handle of the traffic police, waterlogging occurred at Kamaraj Road, Manyata Tech Park, Nehru Circlea and Electronic City, causing traffic congestion in most of these places. A BMTC bus was almost submerged near PES College in Electronic City.
Reports of water entering homes were received by the BBMP control room from HSR Layout, while trees fell in BTM Layout, Koramangala, Vasant Nagar and the Whitefield Road towards Hoodi. Sector 6 of HSR Layout continued to get badly inundated, in spite of visits to the area earlier by MP Ananth Kumar and MLA Satish Reddy.
