Heavy rains pound parts of State BANGALORE, SEP 30, 2014, DHNS :

Rain resumed in several parts of the State on Tuesday. Heavy showers have been reported from a few districts in North Karnataka and Belgaum.

Rains accompanied by stormy winds, lightning and thunder started around 12.30 pm and continued for nearly two hours in Belgaum. There were reports of waterlogging in several low-lying such including Gandhi Nagar, Shahapur and Vadagon. The sudden downpour threw normal life out of gear. The wind and rain also uprooted a tree in Kapileshwar Colony.

A pandal erected for Durga Pooja on Sarvoday Marg, Hindiwadi collapsed due to rain damaging two bikes. Two bikes were damaged in the collapse, but no other casualties were reported. Heavy rains were also reported at Bailhongal, Savadatti and Ramdurg taluks in the district. Siddappa Lingappa Galagina (25) a resident of Hanchinal village in Savadatti taluk was struck dead by lightning while he was working at farm field.

Gadag
A 45-year-old woman died and three women were injured after lightning struck them in Hombala village in Gadag taluk. The four women had gone to the fields when it started raining heavily. They took shelter under a tree when lightning struck them and Akkamahadevi Shivalingappa Devashetty died on the spot. The other three injured women are being treated at the government hospital in the taluk. Clouds hovered over the taluk all day and heavy rain lashed the town and the taluk for two hours on Tuesday.

Bagalkot
A tree fell on a house close to Banahatti's new school in Bagalkot. Several trees were uprooted in the town due to strong winds, followed by heavy rain. Many vehicles were also damaged. Four trees in the bus stand fell on two-wheelers and a car parked under them. There were no casualties. Temporary roofs of many houses and workshops were blown away by the gusty winds.


Haveri

Heavy rains lashed Akki Alur town for two hours in the evening. The villagers who had come to the town for Vijayadashami and Bakrid purchases had a tough time. Vegetables worth thousands of rupees were washed away by rain water.

Dharwad

Heavy rain lashed Dharwad and surrounding areas for about 30 minutes on Tuesday afternoon. The showers dampened the Krishi Mela as visitors had to run for cover.

Davangere

Normal life went out of gear with heavy rain lashing Chitradurga and Davangere districts. Water overflowed from clogged drains in many parts of Davangere. Rain water entered several houses in low-lying areas while crops were damaged in Harapanahalli taluk.

Shimoga

Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong wind, lightning continued to lash some parts of the district on Tuesday.

Shimoga, Sagar, Hosanagar and Thirthahalli received heavy rain for nearly an hour in the afternoon. Power supply was disrupted in some parts of Shimoga city as trees branches fell on electricity poles. Houses were partially damaged when trees were uprooted at Shanthinagar and Mallikarjunnagar. Water level in River Tunga has went up following copious rains over the last few days. Some parts of Shikaripur, Sorab and Bhadravathi also received moderate rain in the evening.

Sirsi

It rained heavily for an hour in the town in the evening. Several areas went without power as a tree fell on an electricity pole in Bidakibylu. The sky remained overcast compelling motorists to use headlights. Movement of vehicles was affected at Ashwini Circle and on TSS Road due to waterlogging.
