Heavy rains lashed a few parts of the State on Sunday.Kushalnagar in Kodagu district received heavy rains for more than an hour on Sunday noon. The town was reeling under heat for the past two days. Water gushed into a house in Indiranagar while the KSRTC bus stand had converted into a tank. Movement of vehicles was affected as roads were waterlogged. However, there were no reports of any casualties.
Several taluks in Haveri district received rains towards Sunday evening. Rains coupled with lightning lashed Savanur, Haveri, Hangal, Byadgi and Ranebennur.
Tumakuru
Two persons were killed and four others sustained serious injuries when lightning struck them in the separate incidents reported in Pavagad taluk of Tumakuru district.
The deceased have been identified as Ravishankar (19), a shepherd and a resident of Kariyammanapalya. Ravishankar, along with the herd, was near the village when the lightning struck him dead.
Anjappa (52) of Kadagatturu in Madhugiri taluk was struck dead by lightning on Sunday evening.
In another incident, four farm labourers who were taking shelter under a tree when the skies opened up, suffered serious injuries after they were struck by lightning. Hanumantaraya, Ramappa, Peddaiah and Shashidhar suffered serious injuries in the incident.
26-year-old Umesh was struck dead by lightning in Tekalavatti Gollarahatty village of Holalkere taluk in Chitradurga district. The incident occurred while he was in his land to guard maize crop.
Mundagod town in Uttara Kannada district too received heavy rains .
Shivamogga
Moderate to heavy rains accompanied by lightning and strong wind lashed several parts of Shivamogga district.
Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Sagar, Hosanagar, some parts of Thirthahalli, Shikaripur received rains towards evening. Water level in Linganamakki dam rose to 1791.80 feet against the maximum of 1,819 feet. The inflow of water was 2,636 cusecs.
