Monsoon picks up pace in Malnad, coastal dists AUGUST 13, 2015, BENGALURU,

Several parts of the State received moderate rainfall on Wednesday leading to a rise in the water level in rivers and damage to property in a few places.

Monsoon has picked up pace in Uttara Kannada with Malnad and the coastal areas receiving moderate rainfall. Coastal areas such as Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola and Karwar and Sirsi, Siddapur and Yellapur in Malnad region received good rainfall. Semi-arid regions like Mundgod and Haliyal experienced normal rains.

Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada experienced showers on Wednesday. Madikeri, Sampaje, Bhagamandala, Hudikeri, Srimangala, Somwarpet, Shanthalli and other places received moderate rainfall. Sampaje received the highest rainfall of five cm in the past 24 hours. As a result, the inflow of water to Payaswini river has increased drastically.

On the other hand, intermittent rain continued to lash Mangaluru.

In the past 24 hours, Puttur received the highest rainfall of 59.8 mm followed by Bantwal with 26.8 mm rainfall.

Shivamogga

After a brief lull, heavy rains lashed several parts of Shivamogga district.
Bhadravathi, Shivamogga, Thirthahalli, Sagar, Hosanagar, parts of Shikaripur and Sorab taluks received good spell of rains in the morning.

Intermittent rains lashed most parts of the district throughout the day. Unlike the other days, the district witnessed cloudy weather.

In the last 24 hours, Thirthahalli received rainfall of 22.60 mm, followed by Sagar-4.80 mm, Hosanagar- 4.00 mm.

Bagalkot has received moderate rainfall.
Water level in Linganamakki dam rose to 1786.40 feet against the maximum level of 1,819 feet as catchment area of the dam received rainfall of 36.40 mm. The inflow of water was 7,672 cusecs and the outflow was 6,848 cusecs.

Water released from KRS

Water is being released from Krishnarajasagar reservoir to Tamil Nadu since Wednesday morning. The Irrigation department has issued a statement saying that the dam had only 107 feet of water and hence release of water through canals had been stopped. However, the outflow on Wednesday stood at 5,014 cusecs.
